Después de una temporada tocando conciertos solo, o acompañado al banjo y bozouki por Marcos Molina (quien seguirá yendo y viniendo), me he juntado con unos amigos para montar un grupo de acompañamiento para TSNTS que -por ahora- me gusta llamar The Unborn Children.

Estrenaremos formato y sonido el próximo jueves 3 de diciembre teloneando a Grita Goldstein y a Norton en el Wurlitzer Ballroom de Madrid.

After some time doing shows on my own, or together with Marcos Molina on banjo and bozouki (who will come and go), I have got together with some friends to put together a live band for TSNTS that I like to call -for now- The Unborn Children.

We will inaugurate the new combo and sound next thursday, december 3rd, opening for Grita Goldstein and Norton at Wurlitzer Ballroom, Madrid.

En el número de septiembre de la revista Plástica, Raúl Querido ha escrito una breve y bonita reseña sobre uno de los últimos conciertos en el Picnic (Madrid), donde dice cosas como éstas:

"Con tremendo aplomo, y armado tan solo de una guitarra acústica y su voz, a ambos instrumentos les exigio el máximo. Sus composiciones resuenan como blues clásico puesto al día, con reverencia y con personalidad. (...) Calidad y calidez tiene de sobra."

On the september issue of Plástica magazine, Raúl Querido has written a brief and beautiful note on one of the last shows at Picnic Bar (Madrid), whre he says things like these:

"With a trmendous confidence, and only armed with an acoustic guitar and his voice, he asked the most out of both instruments. His compositions reverb like an updated classic blues, with reverence and personality. (...) He overflows with warmth and quality."

And here it is... http://quegratasorpresa.blogspot.com/2009/03/singer-not-song.html 2/03/09 THE SINGER NOT THE SONG muy al margen de lo que mick jagger quería decirnos en 1961 con la canción que da nombre a este proyecto, nos imaginamos que francisco rojo está claramente convencido de que es la obra y no el artista quien ha de hablar y convencer. y a nosotros, desde luego, nos ha convencido con sus canciones de esto y no de lo contrario, pero como mínimo reflexionamos sobre la lacónica e irónica afirmación de su nombre de guerra: "el cantante, no la canción". en mond bar recibimos su epé de su mano, recordándonos con ese gesto que sigue habiendo vida más allá de myspace, aunque finalmente y por comodidad hayamos terminado disfrutando de su propuesta dándole al play con el ratón. escuchando detenidamente los temas de su reproductor virtual podemos vislumbrar que rojo se mueve con mucha comodidad y soltura por los caminos del pop-folk anglosajón de los sesenta y su versión americana más descarada, que le encantan los arreglos minimalistas y psicodélicos del señor george harrison, y que no se conforma con crear un cancionero homogéneo y lineal sino que intenta explorar todas las posibilidades de su registro, mucho más amplio de lo que uno puede deducir en las primeras escuchas. mención especial para la versión de the 6ths (unos de los múltiples proyectos de stephin merritt) y para 'the song i sing when i am here', en la que despliega todo su potencial folk. buenas canciones, no hay duda. También he recibido un mail de un chico de Alberta, Canadá, que se hace llamar 'Dress up like a Hooker, I'll be Charlie Sheen', y que elabora un recopilatorio mensual con artistas de myspace, además de hacer unas canciones cojonudas. En el mes de marzo, The song I sing when I am here abre el CD. 23 de febrero, 2009 Nueva canción; esta vez, un dueto / New song up; this time, a duet Waltzing me all the way home es el primero de los frutos que ha dado la minigira Barcelona Singin', aparte de las experiencias, los conciertos y de la gente que estuvo allí y habló con nosotros. Waltzing me all the way home es una canción de Stephin Merritt intepretada por Odetta para el disco 'Hyacinths & Thitsles', de su proyecto The 6ths. La gran Odetta murió el 2 de diciembre de 2008 en Nueva York. Bob Dylan cambió su guitarra eléctrica por una Martin acústica cuando la oyó cantar por la radio. Compré mi nueva guitarra, una Martin, en Nueva York el 14 de diciembre. Y le puse su nombre: Odetta. The Not Knowing y yo escogimos Waltzing me all the way home para tocarla juntos en nuestros conciertos y grabarla en casa de un amigo durante la gira. Se escucha un autoarpa, una guitarra (Odetta), nuestras voces y la pericia de nuestro cómplice Dominik. Gracias a todos. ------------------- Waltzing me all the way home is the first outcome from the minitour Barcelona Singin', besides the experiences, the concerts and the people that was there and talked to us. Waltzing me all the way home is a song by Stephin Merritt intepreted by Odetta for the album 'Hyacinths & Thitsles' of his project The 6ths. The great Odetta died on December 2, 2008 in New York City. Bob Dylan traded his electric guitar for an acoustic Martin when he heard her sing on the radio I bought my new guitar, a Martin, in New York, the 14th of December. And I gave it her name: Odetta The Not Knowing and me chose Waltzing me all the way home to play it together at concerts and to record it at a friend's house during the tour. You can hear an autoharp, a guitar (Odetta), our voices and the know-how of our accomplice Dominik Thank you all.

The new EP "Not I", by The Singer Not The Song, has been finished mixing and is out now!. Recorded during two itensive half-improvised sessions in March 2008 by the wonderful countryside of Villena, Spain, the recording was assisted by Rafael de Juan, a cult local musician.
